The Bears and Me

The early bird catches the worm and the early riser catches sight of the bears....maybe once a year or so. This was a gift, seeing Mama Bear and her three cubs outside an easterly bedroom window one spring day. While mama ate roots and grubs, the children played together and ate spruce buds.

They weren't bothering me, and I wasn't bothering them. We were co-existing, peacefully. One whiff of my human scent would have sent them all tumbling back down into the woods. So I was quiet and respectful.

And we all enjoyed the early morning before the sun grew too hot and the noises of human activities made Mama decide it was time to go back to the den.
